A mental model earns its place when it changes what we do on an ordinary Tuesday. The point is not to collect elegant ideas. The point is to see a little more clearly.
Separate the event from the story
Something happens. Then we explain it to ourselves. Those two moments often arrive so close together that they feel like one.
A project stalls. That is an event. “I never finish anything” is a story. The story may feel convincing, but it deserves a second look.
Build a smaller response

The habit is not dramatic. That is why it can survive a difficult week.
Make room for revision
Every model leaves something out. Use the ideas that help you act with care, and put them down when they stop being useful. A map should help you move, not tell you who you are.
